For nineteen years a 91-year-old Italian woman named Emma Morosini traveled the world on foot to visit the shrines dedicated to the Virgin Mary and to help those in need.

In 1994, Emma had to undergo surgery and recovered. To thank the Virgin Mary she made her first pilgrimage to Lourdes. Then she made it a habit.

"Every step I take is a flower that I offer to the Virgin Mary. The further I walk the bigger the bouquet becomes!" Emma said. "This is my own special way of thanking the Virgin," the woman who has traveled over 22,000 miles on foot recounted. A native of Mantua (Northern Italy), Emma has journeyed throughout Europe, Africa and South America.

She arrived in Argentina in January 2015 to begin her long journey to the shrine of Our Lady of Lujan. She visited churches, hospices and homes for people in need. Emma has been known to care for the sick in the hospital overnight to help families. She is ready to sleep in the streets, in hostels or in the homes of friendly people who open their doors to her.

When she arrived at Saint Peter's Square in Rome on April 22, 2015, Emma Morosini was personally greeted by Pope Francis.
