The first Lourdes grotto in the land of the Hashemite Kingdom

The first grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes on Jordanian territory was built in the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Nour, 24 km south of Amman (capital of Jordan).

It was inaugurated in the afternoon of May 2, 2015, with the recitation of the Rosary and a Mass celebrated by Mgr. Bishop Maroun Lahham, Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. After the Mass, the Archbishop blessed the small Marian shrine with holy water from the shrine of Lourdes while the pastor, Father Rifat Bader, read a letter from Mgr. Nicolas Brouwet, Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, saluting the first place of worship associated to the French shrine inaugurated on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom.

On Sunday, May 3rd, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Mgr. Fouad Twal, visited the grotto, led the Rosary and attended a choral performance of several Marian hymns.
