A priestly blessing

St. John Chrysostom

Dear Family of Mary!

"...For the sake of Jesus, for the sake of my Son, love those whom He has called and long for the blessing only from the hands which He has consecrated. Do not permit evil to come to reign. Anew I repeat - only alongside your shepherds will my heart triumph. Do not permit evil to separate you from your shepherds. Thank you." (Message to Mirjana, (09/02/13)

The Gospel for today is Luke 6: 39-42. Jesus talks about judging our brothers in this short Gospel reading: "...Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,' when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye."

I think that one of the evils that separate us from our shepherds that Our Lady is talking about in her message is the evil of judging our shepherds. This evil separates us from our shepherds because once we judge them, we will have trouble trusting them. Our evaluation of our shepherds will forever cloud our perception of them, and break the unity of the Body of Christ. Jesus does not want us to judge His anointed ones. He wants us to love them. He alone is their judge. Our job is to surround the shepherds with our forgiveness and love and prayer.

Our dear sister in the Lord, Olga, wrote a very profound email about this very subject which I want to share with you today:

Dear Denis,
I'm praying the Rosary every day with you and Cathy and everyone in the boat...

I am very grateful to Our Lady for all Her messages, and also those on the second of the month, where She speaks about priesthood. I've long felt the call to pray for priests, and these little lines are like flashlights for me. I'm always looking forward to this little "p.s", and I was very touched by the lengthy p.s. in the recent message. I know sometimes keeping your heart open for a priest means going the Way of the Cross... remember what Sister Bridge McKenna said about the pain Our Lady has in Her Heart for Her priests (and it was given to Sister Bridge to feel during an apparition... this was in the Fruit show in October last year). I believe most of us have had temptations at least, to close our heart to some priest or other. But it strikes me that in the past several messages from the second of the month Our Lady actually teach us to LOVE our shepherds. In the very last one She didn't even say "pray", but She was speaking of LOVE and unity with our shepherds, giving us the only foundation for it that may stand the test of trials: "For the sake of Jesus, for the sake of My Son..." We have to love our shepherds with the Love of Jesus, we have to see them with His Eyes... and embrace our crosses with love and joy, so that He is able to purify and strengthen His chosen souls, so that Our Lady is able to console them with Her presence. Of course, to LOVE and to go the Way of the Cross with JOY is humanly impossible... so we're always "poor in spirit", always in need of the Holy Spirit to come upon us and purify and teach us His Ways!

... and so I'm always in need of my family praying and sailing the digital sea :)
It is such a great comfort and blessing, I can never thank Our Lady enough for this gift...  always with LOVE keeping you in my heart and prayers,  Olga - your shipmate in Moscow :)

Thank you, Olga, for pinpointing the bottom line in Our Lady's call to pray for and love our shepherds. That bottom line is Jesus. We must love our shepherds for Jesus' sake. Loving them, we love Him as well. That doesn't mean they are perfect. It means they are loved and worthy of our love.

Sr. Briege spoke about the love that Jesus and Mary have for the priests in her testimony on Mary TV, Fruit show Episode 30. Here is the transcript of her experience of Our Lady's love for priests:

I remember I had this sense when I was in the room of apparition, just as the visionaries were about to kneel down. I thought I should really be feeling very holy. I should be feeling that Our Lady is appearing here. What is happening to me? I had this pain in my heart. I thought I was getting a heart attack. And I thought, O, my Lord, what a place to die! I thought I was having a heart attack right when Our Lady was appearing. And I could feel this awful, awful pain in my breast, and I thought, what is happening. And just as they came out of the vision, [I heard], "The pain you are feeling is the pain I have in my heart for my priests." (Sr. Briege McKenna, Fruit of Medjugorje, Episode 30)

Sr. Briege has ministered to priests for many years, carrying the love, even the painful love, of Jesus and Mary to them. I believe we are being called to join her in carrying this love to our shepherds, to encourage them and even suffer for them, so that they can be the front line in the battle for souls. By suffering for our priests, rather than judging them, we can be part of the healing love that Jesus wants to pour out upon them. We can help Our Lady to lead them in the battle for souls. We can be like the supply team that feeds and tends to the soldiers on the front lines. Our love, service and respect will help them carry on.

Thank you, Olga, for your great incite. And thank you, dearest Mother for calling us to love our shepherds for the sake of Jesus!

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
