St. Hedwig

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

Dear Family of Mary!

"Dear children! With great joy, also today, I desire to call you anew: pray, pray, pray. May this time be a time of personal prayer for you. During the day, find a place where you will pray joyfully in a recollected way. I love you and bless you all. Thank you for having responded to my call." (August 25, 2010)

In Episode 26 of Fruit of Medjugorje, Fr. Kevin Scallon shares his experiences and thoughts about Medjugorje. Fr. Kevin and Sr. Briege McKenna have a worldwide ministry to priests. They travel tirelessly, spending themselves in renewing the priests who spend themselves for the people. They both love Medjugorje. In this episode, Fr. Kevin shares about his first visit to Medjugorje, which I have transcribed below:

I went there the year after Sr. Briege went there...I went there in 1985, and when I went there Sr. Briege asked me to take over an electric razor to Fr. Tomislav! So I went there with this razor but I also had a letter of introduction to Sr. Janja. That was 1985. So I went there. Of course I was struck by the grace of that place. You just go there and you are immediately embraced by Our Lady. It is so wonderful there.

Anyway, before I went there I had seen a video during our program for priests of a priest who said he had gotten a word from Our Lady through one of the visionaries. And I said to myself, "Gosh wouldn't it be great to get a word from Herself! A special word!" Well I thought it was spiritual curiosity of the worst kind. So I said to myself, "No you are here as a pilgrim, so just climb the mountain, go to Krizevac." But the more I tried to put it out of my head, the more it came back again. So I went to Sr. Janja (She was one of the only people who could speak English at the time.) and I said to her "Sister this is on my mind. (I was at a crossroads in my life, going into full time ministering to priests.) And she told me to go away and pray and fast and come back tomorrow. But the next day before I could talk to her about it, she said to me, "Yes, you should ask Our Lady." I asked her how I should ask the questions. She said to write them out on a piece of paper, and she would give them to Marjia. She would translate them in to Croatian and she would give them to Marija.

So I was in the apparition room that night when Our Lady appeared. I thought I would be in ecstasy at that moment but in fact my mind was completely distracted. I was there, they were having the apparition. I could see Marija with the piece of paper in her hand...And I couldn't wait to get around afterwards to talk to Marija. So I went and asked her what Our Lady said. She said, "Father I saw Our Lady and..." And I said, "What did she say!!!!" And she said, "Well I said to Our Lady, I have this piece of paper, there is a priest here who has these questions to ask. What answer do you give him?" And Marija said that Our Lady smiled, which I was glad to hear! And she said Our Lady told her, "Tell this priest, tell him that all his questions will be answered in prayer." And you know I was like the young man in the Gospel, I was a little bit disappointed in that. Because she didn't tell me I was going to be the first Irish pope or some extraordinary thing like that! But it was afterwards when I went and reflected on this answer...I thought it was not what I was expecting...but it really challenged me and it was the perfect answer.

And that is the kernel of much of what Our Lady is saying in Medjugorje. Prayer is everything. Prayer is for all of us. I would have to say and witness to what Our Lady said that day, that I know it was that way in the past, is now and will be in the future, that all my questions, all I need she will answer for me in prayer. (Fr. Kevin Scallon. Fruit of Medjugorje, Episode 26.)

Fr. Kevin is so humble. He was ready to receive all Our Lady would say to him. And when she told him to expect to have all his questions answered in prayer, he realized with certainty that this advice was perfect! And it is! Perfect advice for all of us. All our questions will be answered in prayer.

Pray, pray, pray!! All we need will come from prayer.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
