Dear Family of Mary!

"...You will be my light-bearers of God's love.  You will illuminate the way for those who have been given eyes but do not want to see.  I desire for all of my children to see my Son.  I desire for all of my children to experience His Kingdom.  Again I call you and implore you to pray for those whom my Son has called.  Thank you."  (October 2, 2012)

Our Lady concludes her message of October 2 with a description of the task she is giving us as her helpers. As we are filled with the Holy Spirit and His gifts, we will become "light-bearers." We will be sent out to find her children who do not yet see Jesus or experience His Kingdom.

We might wonder what this "light" is that can have such a marvelous effect upon Our Lady's lost children. I believe it is the "light of faith in God's love" which shines into the darkness of disbelief and dispels it. It is the "light of faith in Jesus Christ" which will heal the blindness of those who do not see, and will reveal the Kingdom to those who do not see it.

How incredible it is that just now, even today, the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI has declared a "Year of Faith" during which time we are to blow the embers of our faith into hot flames of love for God. Indeed, Our Lady and Pope Benedict are on the same road together, leading the flock to deeper faith so that we can pass that faith on to others.

I want to quote St. Louis de Montfort once more, because he always seems to hit the mark in terms of Our Lady of Medjugorje. He writes of the wonderful effects of devotion to Mary, and in particular that those devoted to her will participate in her faith:

Participation in Mary's Faith

Montfort

214. Our Blessed Lady will give you also a portion of her faith, which was the greatest of all faiths that ever were on earth, greater than the faith of all the patriarchs, prophets, apostles and saints put together. Now that she is reigning in Heaven, she no longer exercises this faith, because she sees all things clearly in God by the light of glory. Nevertheless, with the consent of the Most High, in entering into glory she did not lose her faith. She kept it for her faithful servants in the Church Militant. The more, then, that you gain the favor of that august Princess and faithful Virgin, the more will you act by pure faith; a pure faith which will make you care hardly at all about sensible consolations and extraordinary favors; a lively faith animated by charity, which will enable you to perform all your actions from the motive of pure love; a faith firm and immovable as a rock, through which you will rest quiet and constant in the midst of storms and hurricanes; a faith active and piercing, which like a mysterious pass-key, will give you entrance into all the mysteries of Jesus, into the last ends of man, and into the Heart of God Himself; a courageous faith, which will enable you to undertake and carry out without hesitation great things for God and for the salvation of souls; lastly, a faith which will be your blazing torch, your divine life, your hidden treasure of divine wisdom and your omnipotent arm; which you will use to enlighten those who are in the darkness of the shadow of death, to inflame those who are lukewarm and who have need of the heated gold of charity, to give life to those who are dead in sin, to touch and overthrow, by your meek and powerful words, the hearts of marble and the cedars of Lebanon; and finally, to resist the devil and all the enemies of salvation. (St. Louis de Montfort. True Devotion to Mary. N. 214)

Our Lady, through the action of the Holy Spirit can give us a portion of her faith, which will burn brightly in our souls, and guide us in the ways of love. That faith will light up the lives of all we meet, drive away the shadows of doubt, and light the way to the Kingdom of Jesus for those who are far from it.

Let us ask Our Lady to pray with us to the Holy Spirit for such faith: "a faith which will be your blazing torch, your divine life, your hidden treasure of divine wisdom and your omnipotent arm; which you will use to enlighten those who are in the darkness of the shadow of death, to inflame those who are lukewarm and who have need of the heated gold of charity, to give life to those who are dead in sin, to touch and overthrow, by your meek and powerful words, the hearts of marble and the cedars of Lebanon; and finally, to resist the devil and all the enemies of salvation."

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
