TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH: Daily renewal for busy Catholics 11/18/2011

Friday, November 18
DEDICATION OF THE BASILICAS OF PETER AND PAUL IN ROME; ROSE PHILIPPINE DUCHESNE, VIRGIN

Hold nothing back
“We cultivate a very small field for Christ,” said Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne about her mission work in the American West during the 1800s, “but we love it, knowing that God does not require great achievements but a heart that holds back nothing for self.” Ironically those unselfishly laboring out of love for God invariably achieve great things and leave lasting legacies. Mother Rose introduced the Society of Sacred Heart to the U.S, and by the turn of the 19th century the sisters had attracted 1,100 members. And those basilicas we celebrate today? Well, St. Peter’s Basilica, considered the most magnificent church structure in the world, began as a red rock marking the place where Saint Peter was buried.

TODAY’S READINGS: 1 Maccabees 4:36-37, 52-59; Luke 19:45-48 (501)
“All the people prostrated themselves and adored and praised Heaven, who had given them success.”

Promote vocations

Religious priests, brothers, sisters, nuns, and others in consecrated life as well as diocesan priests and permanent deacons are vital to the life of the church. Please invite Catholic men and women to consider a church vocation, and make these FREE vocation resources available in your parish or places of ministry:

Please no anonymous comments. I require at least some way for people to address each other personally and courteously. Having some name or handle helps.
