Four years ago, June 30, 2007 three men, crashed their Jeep Cherokee SUV in the Glasgow, Scotland airport setting their vehicle and themselves on fire in an attempted terrorist attack. Officials said that the attack was part of larger coordinated terrorist attack that included other areas in London, England. That was the story we knew 4 years ago. Yesterday in Medjugorje we heard the “rest of the story.”

Fr. Dominic Towney from Scotland told the Caritas Community in Medjugorje yesterday, “It was a remarkable thing what happened. It was people from our group going to Medjugorje that was in a taxi in front of the terrorist.”

Fr. Dominic explained to a Caritas Community member, “The taxi provided a distraction to the terrorist,” which he explained made it so that they could not drive their jeep directly in to the airport but instead crashed into a security screen. According to news sources reporting at the time, eyewitnesses said the terrorist’s jeep was “tailgating a taxi” on it’s way into the airport terminal.1

According to Fr. Kevin Devine, an American priest in Medjugorje, “Coming here to Medjugorje has provided protection against a terrorist attack… It’s interesting that Our Lady of Medjugorje is responsible for stopping a terrorist attack,” mentioning the incident of 4 years ago from the altar at St. James Church in Medjugorje yesterday.

Fr. Dominic told the Caritas Community about the event 4 years ago, that, “none of us made it on our pilgrimage here (to Medjugorje) because the airports were closed.”But added with a smile, “We’re here now though.”

According to Fr. Dominic Towney, other members of his Medjugorje pilgrimage group were inside the airport when the attack took place in June 2007.

Though now we hear the “rest of the story” 4 years later, this story gives us remarkable insight into the power of Our Lady, as She comes to us today in Medjugorje as the Queen of Peace.

One should never be afraid of coming to Medjugorje. As illustrated in the story above, Our Lady can protect us, and others when we decide to visit Her Holy Village. Our Lady of Medjugorje said on February 12, 1990:

"Dear children, your Mother is happy when She sees you in such large numbers. Dear children, you have come to me with a firm decision. Do not fear anything, I protect you and guard you…”

Caritas Pilgrims June 2011 - Apparition Mountain

BVM Caritas Medjugorje Pilgrimages - June 2011

With Cross Mountain in the distant background, these Caritas pilgrims are ascending up Apparition Mountain, the site of the first apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje.

On that day, June 24, 1981, two girls, Mirjana and Ivanka saw the figure of a Woman beckoning them to come up the mountain. But the two girls became frightened and ran away. The next day, the two girls Ivanka and Mirjana with others came back to the mountain. Again, the same Woman was beckoninng them to come. This time they obeyed, running with great speed to the place where the Woman was. It was then that they fully understood Who stood before them as She revealed Herself, "I am the Blessed Virgin Mary."

Though hard, for pilgrims there is a certain sweetness to this climb up Apparition Mountain, as though Our Lady is walking with you, or beckoning you to come up the Mountain, just as She did to Mirjana, Ivanka, and the others in June of 1981. And She does beckon you to come to the Holy Villlage where the grace of Her daily apparitons still exists. Have you run away like Mirjana and Ivanka did? If you have run away, then come back again to the Mountain and follow Her invitation, so that She reveals Herself to you, in the fullness of Who She is, the Queen of Peace. The Queen beckons you to come, set out with Her.

Caritas Pilgrims June 2011 - Cross Mountain

Making the climb up Cross Mountain is always a very moving experience. The BVM Caritas Medjugorje pilgrimage prays the Stations of the Cross. Here in this picture above, the Caritas gorup is praying the Second Staion - Jesus Takes up His Cross. For most pilgrims, the grace of this climb is that often one feels as though they are truly carrying their own crosses: marriages, children, vocations, past sins - all these are brought to the forethought while making this difficult climb, and then, left at the foot of Jesus' Cross on the top of the mountain.Who would not want to be freed of the burden's that they carry, and to take up the yoke of Jesus, which is easy, and His burden, which is light?

Jesus beckons you to, "Come all you who are weary and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon your shoulders, for My yoke is easy and My burden light." The King beckons you to come, set out for Him.

Caritas Pilgrims June 2011 - Chapel of the Two Hearts

BVM Caritas Medjugorje Pilgrim at The Chapel of the Two Hearts - June 2011

Medjugorje visionary Marija and her husband Paolo built a chapel near their home in Medjugorje. When in Medjugorje, this is where Marija has her daily apparitions. The chapel was completed just before the twentieth anniversary (June 25, 2001). Paolo and Marija did a novena so that Our Lady would name their new chapel. During this apparition, Marija told Our Lady, "We give this chapel to you. What name do you desire it to be given?" When asked, Our Lady smiled and lovingly held up Her first two fingers, signifying the number two, and then pointed to Her heart and traced a heart with Her finger. Marija was flooded with emotion, tears, and joy and understood in her heart that Our Lady named it The Chapel of The Two Hearts.

As seen above, the BVM Caritas Medjugorje pilgrimage group prays the Consecration to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, a beautiful grace to be able to pray the Conescrations in the chapel that Our Lady Herself named, and through this union of the Two Hearts of Jesus and Mary, will bring triumph over darkness. The Queen beckons you, the King beckons you, and the union of their Two Hearts will protect and guide you.
