On coming June 26th, the rector of Vienna cathedral, Fr Anton Faber, will celebrate for the fourth time an annual “Western mass”. This event takes place in the context of the so-called Donauinselfest, a festival on the Danube island.
Most of the participants at the Western Mass are sitting at beer benches. While Fr Faber offers Mass, they are smoking, drinking and eating. From there they proceed to receive Holy Communion.
During the last three years, Gloria.tv has captured this large-scale liturgical abuse on video, and published the footage.
This year, Gloria.tv Austria has contacted the archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, through his spokesman and his secretary. Gloria.tv has urged the Cardinal to stop this abuse and to replace the Western Mass with a prayer service without distributing Holy Communion.
