Dear Family of Mary!

Our Lady appeared to Ivan on top of Apparition Mountain Medjugorje tonight at around 10:00 p.m., May 20, 2011.  Ivan commented on his encounter with Our Lady afterwards to the people present on the mountain, saying, "Today, as always, after every meeting with Our Lady, I desire to also describe to you what is the most important. Our Lady came very joyful and happy and at the beginning, as always, She greeted us all with Her Motherly greeting, 'Praised be Jesus, my dear children.'Then Our Lady said:

"Dear children, today more than ever I desire to call you to prayer. Dear children, Satan wants to destroy today's families, therefore I desire to call you to a renewal of family prayer. Pray, dear children, in your families with your children, do not permit access to Satan. Thank you, dear children, for also today responding to my call."

Our Lady then (for a while) with Her arms extended, prayed over all of us here. She prayed over the sick present and She blessed us all with Her Motherly blessing. She also blessed the religious articles brought for blessing. Then Our Lady prayed for a while especially for peace, for peace in the world. I recommended also all of you, your needs, your intentions, your families and especially the sick. Our Lady then continued to pray over all of us. She left in that prayer, in an illuminated Sign of the Cross with a greeting, "Go in peace, my dear children."

Though this is not an official message, and it was given specifically for the people on the mountain that night, I want to share it with you because of its urgency.  Our Lady speaks very pointedly about the necessity of family prayer.   She tells us that Satan is wants to destroy today's families, and he is finding a way to get direct access into the heart of our families. This access can be through many channels, the internet, television and movies, video games, books, parties, magazines, friends and neighbors, alcohol, drugs, extreme sports, sex, violence, loneliness, abandonment, overwork, and on and on.  It doesn't matter the channel, Satan cannot enter unless he is given permission by the family members.  And that permission is given when we don't put God in the first place through family prayer.

Family prayer sets a perimeter around the family of heavenly protection.  It unites the family, keeping the spirit of disunity away.  It blesses the family, so that each heart is filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.  Where the Holy Spirit is, the evil spirits cannot come.  Family prayer illumines minds, bringing light to dispel the darkness of sin.  It promotes peace in the family, the peace of God which is a bulwark against the enemy.  Family prayer is a discipline, through which each member becomes strong in their resolve to follow the Lord.

Family prayer is not easy.  It is a fight for Denis and me, even now!  We have to prepare our hearts for an ordeal when family prayer time approaches.  There are so many reasons why not to pray, so many little skirmishes that erupt between family members just before prayer, so many grimaces and balks!  Without firm hearts, we would lose these battles, and soon daily prayer would cease.  We have many battle scars to prove it!!

When Jelena was here for the Notre Dame Medjugorje Conference, she spoke about the role of family prayer in Medjugorje.  I will transcribe that part of her talk hopefully for tomorrow's reflections.  It was incredible.  Basically she said that Our Lady worked through family prayer to form the parish of Medjugorje!

"Dear children! This is a time of grace for the family and, therefore, I call you to renew prayer. May Jesus be in the heart of your family. In prayer, learn to love everything that is holy. Imitate the lives of saints so that they may be an incentive and teachers on the way of holiness. May every family become a witness of love in this world without prayer and peace. Thank you for having responded to my call." (October 25, 2004)

This is a time of grace for the family, a time of renewal and hope.  Our Lady is with us to rebuild our families.  Only through family prayer will they be rebuilt!  Let us respond to her call with all our hearts!

In Jesus, Mary, Joseph and Blessed John Paul II!
