Jesus statue, Swiebodzin, Poland - The 'world's tallest Jesus' Statue?

The Jesus statue in Swiebodzin, Poland, is 33 metres high for a reason - it's one metre for every year he lived. Nice metaphor, but it won't disguise the controversial claim that this is the world's tallest Jesus. Locals' insistence that the mound the statue stands upon be taken into account in reckoning its height isn't terribly convincing. By the same measure, Brazil's instantly recognisable Christ the Redeemer, perched atop a 700 metre mountain, would win by a long shot.

Still, hundreds of people turned out to watch the inauguration of Swiebodzin's Jesus, as its huge head was hoisted on to its plaster and fibreglass body. "This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest," said one local, Rev Zawadzki.
